Erotic Art Gallery
Anthony Christian and his students are widely considered to be the greatest traditionalists in the genre of Erotic Art. The oppressive times of the Renaissance prevented the Old Masters like Leonardo, Michelangelo and Van Eyck from exploring sexuality in art though there is little doubt that they would have if they were free to do so.
Anthony Christian has preserved the craft of the Renaissance and has elegantly brought it into modern times. Never before have artists been able to express the erotic side of our nature. The expression of passion. The expression of human beauty... ... The expression of love
The LillyEgg Collection
From 1956 - ‘62 I studied by copying in the National Gallery, in London. During those years I found myself strongly repulsed by so many works of violence, from crucifixions to beheadings. Also, I came to realize that the Gallery, like the other major museums of the world, was padded out with relatively mediocre works, which for credibility all hung on the backs of the few great ones. How wonderful it would be, I thought, if a Museum existed in which there was nothing but the greatest masterpieces and all without the terrible violence.
Many years later from 1968 - 1988, I studied Erotic Art through probably the largest collection in the world, housed in Paris and comprising over 1 million pieces from the 14th Century to date. Whilst studying it I came to love the works so much it became my life’s ambition to create paintings that might cause the genre of Erotic Art to be accepted as completely as Still Life, Landscape or the Nude etc. At the same time, remembering my earlier idea and the inspiration I had to create a museum containing as many of the world’s greatest paintings as possible, I formed a new idea, that of repainting them, replacing violence with eroticism. One thing led to another and the paintings called “LillyEggs” - great Old Master works repainted as works of Erotic Art - came into existence. The whole incredible story behind these paintings is told in O’Halloran Ford’s brilliant book “The Lilly and the Egg” which will soon be available on this website. Anthony Christian |
